Brandy Fundador, the first Spanish brandy and one of the great icons of the Spain brand, was once again the protagonist at the third edition of the Gastroplanet Awards, held on November 17 at the Club Financiero Génova in Madrid. An event designed to recognize chefs, wineries, producers, brands and institutions that uphold the prestige of Spanish gastronomy.
The gala brought together about 200 attendees —specialized journalists, restaurateurs, producers, winemakers and prominent figures in the hospitality industry— in a festive evening where they toasted to the power of Spanish cuisine with cocktails and mixed drinks with Brandy Fundador and with the wines Torre de Macharnudo by Harveys, all of them produced in the Fundador Wineries of Jerez, the oldest in the Marco with almost 300 years of history.
Five awards to highlight the values that define the sector
During the ceremony, presented by Alberto Granados, director of Gastroplnet, and by the journalist Juan Ochoa, five awards were given intended to value the people and projects that uphold gastronomic excellence.
Best values in the room
The award went to Óscar Marcos, head waiter and sommelier of the Alabáster restaurant (Madrid). Ángel Piña, Global Chief Commercial & Marketing Officer of Grupo Emperador and advisor at Casa Pedro Domecq, presented the award and highlighted “the importance of service in the room as a guarantee of an impeccable experience”.
The chef Sacha Hormaechea, soul of the Sacha restaurant (Madrid), received the recognition for the “Best values in the kitchen“for turning his home into a place where, as he expressed, “magical things always happen”. Carlos Latre, comedian and gastronome, was the one who presented him with the trophy.
The award for the ” Best values in gastronomy” went to Luis Suárez de Lezo, president of the Madrid Academy of Gastronomy. It was presented by José Miguel Herrero, general director of Food, who recalled the “strategic importance of the institutional seal Foods of Spain as a guarantee of quality, origin and sustainability of our products”.
The Arzuaga Group was recognized for its trajectory in Ribera del Duero with the award for the ” Best values in wine“. Marta Cuesta Rodríguez, commercial director, events and PR, attended on behalf of the winery and received the recognition from Jaime Obando, CEO of Panadería Obando.
Finally, the distinction for the ” Best travel companion” fell on Mahou San Miguel. Eduardo Díaz, director of hospitality, venues and commercial events, went up on stage to collect the trophy that was presented to him by journalist Jota Abril.
“Magas por Fundador”, the cocktail that livened up the night
Award winners and attendees started and ended the evening toasting with the cocktail ” Magas por Fundador“, made with Brandy Fundador Sherry Cask Doble Madera Solera Reserva.
A long, fresh, balanced drink with a “vintage” touch that is increasingly present at more and more events.
All the winners posed on the photocall with the trophies, exclusive pieces created by José Piñero (El Taller de Piñero) that symbolize values, commitment and professional ethics.
This spirit fits with the moment that Bodegas Fundador is experiencing, recently recognized as the third winery in the world and the first producer of wine and brandy in Spain in the ranking of the “Top wine producers” compiled by the prestigious International Wine & Spirit Competition IWSC in 2025. A title that consolidates the Jerez winery as an international reference in the sector.
