The event, held yesterday, September 10, as part of the Harvest Festivals, was led by Alberto Pizarro, Trade Ambassador of Bodegas Fundador, and José Ferrer, Ambassador of Jerez Wines for Gastronomy.

The Master Tasting was the first opportunity for the public to taste the Torre de Macharnudo by Harveys wines, presented last June at Vinoble to press and professionals from different countries.

Jerez de la Frontera, September 17, 2026

Bodegas Fundador was the protagonist last September 10 at one of the Master Tastings held at the Alcázar de Jerez on the occasion of the Harvest Festivals, the cycle that brings together in one of the city’s most emblematic historical sites Jerez wines and brandies, gastronomy and music.

This year’s event was especially significant for Fundador, as it marked the public presentation of the new Torre de Macharnudo by Harveys range, a collection of premium wines that had been unveiled last June, during Vinoble, to national and international media and industry professionals.

Attendees thus had the opportunity to get a first look at a range born in the historic Pago Superior de Macharnudo, one of the great estates of Jerez, on its characteristic albariza soils and under the Atlantic influence. Torre de Macharnudo interprets the classic styles of Jerez from a contemporary perspective, combining territory, history and a production aimed at highlighting the uniqueness of its origin.

A tour of Torre de Macharnudo through gastronomy

The Master Tasting was led by Alberto Pizarro, Trade Ambassador of Bodegas Fundador since 2022, and José Ferrer, Ambassador of Jerez Wines for Gastronomy, who guided attendees through the characteristics of each wine, its production, its connection with the territory and the possibilities they offer when paired with different gastronomic proposals.

During his career at Bodegas Fundador, Alberto Pizarro has carried out intensive training and promotion of Jerez Wines and Brandies, bringing them closer to both the gastronomic and cocktail-making fields, a discipline in which he has a recognized career and has been distinguished on several occasions as the best bartender in Spain.

The experience began with a Fundador cocktail as a welcome drink, highlighting the Brandy de Jerez, the great flagship of the winery and one of the categories most closely linked to its history. It was precisely at Bodegas Fundador where the first Spanish brandy was born in 1874, starting a tradition that is still fully alive today and is also expressed through new forms of consumption linked to cocktails and mixed drinks.

Next, the Fino Torre de Macharnudo by Harveys, accompanied by a warm scallop salad with goat cheese vinaigrette from Cádiz, inaugurated the paired tasting. A dry, complex wine with a marked minerality, made from selected grapes from albariza soils and also characterized by its notes of fresh white fruit and nuts.

It was followed by the Amontillado Torre de Macharnudo, paired with almadraba tuna tataki with ponzu-gochujang sauce and crispy nori seaweed. Its double aging, first biological under flor veil and then oxidative, results in a complex profile with notes of apple, yeast, nuts and spices.

The selection continued with the Palo Cortado Torre de Macharnudo, accompanied by low-temperature mantis shrimp in the style of its coral juice. A wine of great elegance and complexity, with oxidative notes, nuts, almond and toasted nuances.

Next, the Oloroso Torre de Macharnudo, harmonized with glazed green crust lamb rib and potato millefeuille. With oxidative aging, it stood out for its aromatic richness, with memories of raisin fruit, honey, nuts, spices, toast and vanilla, and for a velvety and persistent mouth.

The tasting ended with Harveys Bristol Cream, accompanied by an imperial tart with caramel topping, completing a journey designed to show the versatility of Jerez wines and their ability to accompany very different gastronomic proposals.

A wine linked to one of the great payments of Jerez

Torre de Macharnudo by Harveys originates from a place closely linked to the wine history of Jerez. The Pago de Macharnudo has been documented as a vine cultivation area since the 14th century and its location and height favor the influence of the Atlantic and optimal ripening of the Palomino grape.

The collection has been conceived as a premium range made from selected grapes, combining the historical legacy of the region with a contemporary image and positioning.

Its debut to the public in the Alcázar also took on special significance as it took place during the Harvest Festivals, one of the great celebrations of the wine identity of Jerez.

Fundador, a September linked to gastronomy and Jerez

The Master Tasting was integrated into the intense schedule that Bodegas Fundador develops during September, a month in which the company continues to link its activity to gastronomy, wine, heritage, and the promotion of the city.

Throughout the month, there are also night visits to Bodegas Fundador, on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at 7:00 p.m., with the possibility of completing the experience with a dinner under the stars at Casa Fundador.

To this are added other events such as Fundador & Friends, which will celebrate its last evening of the season on September 24 with chef Alejandro Alcántara, from the Beduino restaurant, or a new edition of Magas, scheduled for the 25th and dedicated to recognizing female talent and leadership.

A program that is also developed in a particularly relevant year for the city, with Jerez as the Spanish Capital of Gastronomy 2026. Fundador maintains active participation in this capital throughout the year, contributing to projecting the gastronomic, wine, cultural, and tourist potential of Jerez within and outside of Andalusia.

Fundador, tradition and excellence

The history of Bodegas Fundador dates back to 1730, being the oldest winery in the Marco de Jerez. The first Spanish brandy was born in its facilities in 1874, giving rise to a tradition that is still alive today thanks to the Criaderas and Solera system.

Currently, the brand is part of Emperador Distillers, the holding company of the Tan family, a world leader in brandy and one of the largest manufacturers of spirits. Under its umbrella, Fundador and other brands such as Terry, Harveys or Espléndido continue to consolidate their presence both within and outside of Spain, reinforcing the heritage and prestige of Jerez wine culture.
