From Marta Pombo to Marina Carmona: the winners of the MAGAS x Fundador awards that recognize talent and legacy

The Bodegas Fundador in Jerez de la Frontera hosted the first ‘MAGAS x FUNDADOR’ awards this Friday, September 25, where the values, work, personality and legacy of several women from the national scene were recognized. Marta Pombo, Carmen Salamero, Mariola Orellana, Marina Carmona and the sisters Lucía and Casilda Sánchez Varela received the awards in an unbeatable environment and surrounded by more than 300 guests (see full summary).

Pedro J. Ramírez, executive president and director of EL ESPAÑOL, Cruz Sánchez de Lara, executive vice president of EL ESPAÑOL, and Ángel Piña, general director of Grupo Emperador International Brands hosted the event, which was attended by Ana Mestre, president of the Parliament of Andalusia, and María José García-Pelayo, mayor of Jerez and president of the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces, among other faces from the political scene.

The gala featured great musical performances. Among them, those of two current singers like Julia Medina and Conchita. In addition, Marina Carmona also surprised the attendees by performing a bolero in front of the attendees. A night of talent attended by numerous familiar faces such as Raquel Bollo, María Espejo, Leonor Lavado, Ana Bastos, Paula Ordovás, Marta Manzano, Claudia Ula, including from the world of fashion like the designers Pilar Dalbat, Mila Montero or Aurora Gaviño.

As part of the experience, attendees were able to toast with the “MAGAS x Fundador” cocktail made with Brandy Fundador Sherry Cask Doble Madera and created for these occasions, which accompanied the evening and reinforced the celebratory character of the event in such an emblematic setting as that of Bodegas Fundador

The mayor of Jerez, María José García-Pelayo was in charge of opening the gala with words of gratitude for the choice of the city as the venue for the event. García-Pelayo highlighted “strong and powerful women”, as well as diversity and the meeting of cultures, to send a memory to Ceuta. “I want to send a very special hug to the people of Ceuta, who are having a hard time. Every time we democrats get together we have to remember that Ceuta is Spain”, she defended to the applause of the audience.

In addition, she highlighted the current female influence that will open doors to new generations: “Let’s be proud to be women, let’s not see ourselves as adversaries”.

For his part, Ángel Piña emphasized the number of “successful women” who gathered at the Fundador Wineries, although “the most important thing is that we are here to celebrate the journey, the legacy, the opening of doors”. These words were accompanied by Cruz Sánchez de Lara, who asked those present something very clear: “Defend your essence and be free”.

These ‘MAGAS x FUNDADOR’ awards recognized the work of different women who stand out for their values and for the legacy they are leaving to current and future generations. Content creator Marta Pombo was one of the awardees, highlighting her example of overcoming and sincerity in a world like social networks where the perfect and idyllic prevails. “I had some words prepared, which I don’t know if they make sense anymore after listening to so many women speak with so much love about ourselves. I find it hard to recognize myself in the praises, so this means a lot to me. It’s a tremendous responsibility because I have a very large megaphone to transmit values“, she confessed emotionally.

“For me, influencing should not be encouraging others to be like you. On the contrary, help each one to be more free to decide who they want to be, which is what I try. In recent years I have learned to accept myself, to choose myself, not to compare myself…”.

The sisters Lucía and Casilda Sánchez Varela also received the ‘MAGAS x FUNDADOR’ award thanks to the work they do at the Paco de Lucía Foundation, helping to maintain the legacy of the historic artist. “Our father had a phrase with which he perfectly explained his relationship with music: ‘With one hand I grasp tradition and with the other I keep digging.’ In his case, the tradition was flamenco. Tradition may sound like something immobile, but it is not a dead weight. Like roots, it is alive,” acknowledged Lucía Sánchez Varela.

Mariola Orellana and Marina Carmona were two other women recognized for their work in the music industry, where the Carmona surname is already part of Spanish culture and where both have earned their own space. Mariola Orellana has more than three decades of experience in the sector, either as an artist representative or as a music producer, while Marina Carmona has carved out a professional career as a singer, extending the artistic saga of the family to a new generation. Two examples of how passion for art transcends over the years.

“This land was shown to me by the great Lola Flores, and receiving an award with my daughter is a source of pride and moves me deeply,” asserted Mariola Orellana. “This is too big for me, I contribute a grain of sand to the musical legacy that my family has left me,” highlighted Marina Carmona just before surprising with her performance.

Carmen Salamero, HR director of the LVMH Iberia group, was the one who collected another of the awards on behalf of the ELLESVMH project, which promotes gender equality and boosts the professional development of women in different organizations. “In 2025 we achieved that the quota of women in top management in the Group became 50% and in Spain we reached 60. This recognition motivates us to continue moving forward,” she detailed.

The president of the Parliament of Andalusia, Ana Mestre, was in charge of closing the event citing Eugenio d’Ors and his phrase “everything that is not tradition is plagiarism”. Mestre emphasized the importance of roots and legacy, which are “the fruit that is left” and the importance of women who inspire new generations and who were “the support of all”. “My greatest responsibility is to represent all of you, to break clichés,” she confessed.

After the gala, the guests were able to enjoy a cocktail and music in the historic facilities of Bodegas Fundador.
