The mayor anticipates that the impact for the city has already reached 33.5 million euros

Fundador, sponsor of the event and one of the great historic wineries of Jerez, participates along with its new range of wines Torre de Macharnudo by Harveys and its Fundador brandy cocktails

Barcelona, September 14, 2026

The City Council of Jerez, with the support of Fundador, has presented this noon, at the restaurant Azul Rooftop Barceloneta in Barcelona, the ‘Spanish Capital of Gastronomy’ under the direction of journalist Teresa Viejo and with the attendance of about 150 people linked to different sectors such as gastronomy and business in addition to the institutional and the media.

The aim of the meeting has been to project the culinary, cultural and tourist identity of Jerez in one of the main media focuses of the country showing some of the main arguments that define the gastronomic identity of Jerez: its cuisine, its wines, its brandy and a winery culture closely linked to the history and development of the city.

The presentation was chaired by the mayor of Jerez, María José García-Pelayo, and the mayor of Barcelona, Jaume Collboni, who were accompanied by the general director of Grupo Emperador International Brands, Ángel Piña and chef Javier Muñoz and is part of the actions promoted on the occasion of the designation of Jerez as the Spanish Capital of Gastronomy 2026 strengthening the ties between Jerez and Barcelona, two cities with a prominent gastronomic and tourist culture.

The Barcelona councilor was the first to speak to welcome the attendees and, in particular, the mayor of Jerez and the general director of Fundador. Collboni recalled that “this is an act of fraternity between Andalusia and Catalonia that share stories and biographies and coincide in enjoying life as in the case of gastronomy. It is very important that Spain recognizes its uniqueness and identity through gastronomy which is a way to promote cities”, he said.

For her part, the mayor of Jerez, María José García-Pelayo has thanked the mayor of Barcelona for his welcome and Fundador for betting on Jerez and for “having made it possible that the capital status has not only stayed in Jerez but has circulated through different points of Spain”, she declared.

“Being the Spanish Capital of Gastronomy has allowed us to have, to date, an economic return of more than 33 million euros, a figure that endorses the success that the gastronomic capital is proving to be. But the most important thing is that it has managed to unite Jerez around a great project of being the Spanish Capital of Gastronomy and from there it has taught us that working together we achieve our goals sooner and more efficiently. Goals like being a great Spanish capital and we are looking for the space that we believe corresponds to us in a great territory like Spain and contributing what we do best, cooking zero kilometer products that pair with the best wines like those of Fundador,” García-Pelayo has stated.

After that, it was the turn of chef Javier Muñoz, who gave a presentation on the unique characteristics of Jerez cuisine, using two tapas as examples, which were later served with the rest of the typical Jerez tapas, along with the Torre de Macharnudo by Harveys wine ranges and a selection of cocktails made with Fundador.

The proposal has had the collaboration of Romain Fornell, responsible for the gastronomic direction of Azul Rooftop Barceloneta.

Finally, Ángel Piña highlighted during the meeting this historical link and the company’s desire to promote nationally and internationally the gastronomy, wines, brandy and culture of Jerez.

Fundador was the sponsor of the Barcelona meeting, as part of its commitment to promoting Jerez and its gastronomic and winemaking heritage, reinforcing its role as a strategic ally with the city. This collaboration arose from the agreement signed between the City Council and Fundador for the organization of joint promotional activities for the city and programming related to the capital. Along with the winery, the presentation has given prominence to Torre de Macharnudo, the company’s new oenological bet, linked to the historic payment of the same name, one of the greats of the Marco de Jerez.

The City Council continues its work to promote gastronomy as a strategic product for the city, enhancing our gastronomic offer and also strengthening the sense of belonging, cultural identity with the aim of turning gastronomy into a true engine of value generation, employment and sustainable economic development. Fundador accompanies the Jerez City Council in these presentations, reaffirming its commitment to the city and to the dissemination of its culinary and winemaking heritage. As a company with a long tradition and deeply rooted in our land, it firmly agrees on the value of supporting initiatives that connect people and generate shared experiences, expressing with acts like this its commitment to local development and to the enhancement of what makes our cities unique.
